The Curious Cousins learned this amazing fact from the dragonfly in The Curious Cousins and the African Elephant Expedition.

Elephants sleep standing up because their large size makes it difficult for them to get up from the ground. They also have a special tendon in their legs that allows them to lock their knees in place, so they can stand without expending any energy.

Elephants typically sleep for about 4-6 hours per day. They may lie down to sleep if they are feeling very tired or if they are in a safe place.
